A tragic road accident near Biju Patnaik Chhak under Badamal police limits claimed the lives of two relatives on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Anil Rohidas (14) and Tarani Rohidas (39) of Bhurkhamunda village.
Police said the victims were returning to Bhurkhamunda from Badamal when a coal‑laden truck coming from Sambalpur rammed into their bike. Both died on the spot.
On receiving information, Badamal police reached the site, seized the truck and the bike, and sent the bodies for post‑mortem to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. The truck driver fled the scene and is currently absconding.
Tahasildar Sadakar Kumbar visited the accident site and handed over Rs 20,000 ex‑gratia assistance from the Red Cross to the bereaved family. Police have registered a case (No. 261/2026) and launched an investigation.
