Security forces killed two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district.
The gunfight broke out in the Majalta area during a joint search operation by police and the Army in the Jaffer forest of Ramnagar.
Officials confirmed that one of the terrorists was a Pakistani national, while the other was a local operative. The encounter began late Tuesday after security forces received inputs about the suspected movement of two to three JeM-linked terrorists.
The terrorists were hiding inside a natural cave in the forest. Security forces launched a final assault on Wednesday, eliminating both operatives. The operation started early Monday and continued for several days, reflecting the intensity of the anti-terror drive in the region.
Authorities said the elimination of the two terrorists marks a significant success against Jaish-e-Mohammad, which has been attempting to expand its presence in Jammu and Kashmir. The search operation remains ongoing to ensure no other operatives are hiding in the area.
Officials highlighted that the encounter demonstrates the coordination between police and Army units in tackling terror threats. Security forces continue to maintain high vigilance in Udhampur and adjoining districts to prevent infiltration and safeguard civilians.
