Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur boarded an ‘Ama Bus’ as a regular passenger and assessed the real condition of Odisha’s public transport service.
During the journey from Master Canteen Depot, he interacted directly with commuters and listened carefully to their concerns. Moreover, he instructed drivers to avoid reckless speeding even if buses run late. He emphasised that passenger safety must always take priority over punctuality.
Additionally, the Commissioner collected detailed feedback about the difficulties senior citizens face while travelling in the ‘Ama Bus’. He assured passengers that their complaints and suggestions would be addressed and promised concrete steps to improve the service in the coming days.
His initiative gained significance as accidents involving the ‘Ama Bus’ recently raised public concern. Furthermore, after directives from the Chief Minister, the Transport Department adopted a more proactive approach. Thakur’s move, therefore, received widespread appreciation as a positive step toward accountability.
Passengers expressed hope that such direct inspections would enhance service standards. They also believed the initiative would ensure safer and more reliable travel across the state.
