A massive landslide caused by relentless rainfall has disrupted train operations on the Koraput-Kirandul line in the Koraput-Jeypore rail section of the Waltair Division, East Coast Railway (ECoR).

The incident, which occurred on July 2, 2025, between Malliguda and Jarati stations, has led to the cancellation or partial cancellation of several key train services for the second consecutive day, affecting thousands of passengers.

The landslide buried a major portion of the railway track under mud and boulders, prompting immediate action from railway authorities. Heavy earth-moving machinery, manpower, and materials have been deployed to clear the debris, with significant progress reported.

Senior officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager, are on-site to oversee restoration efforts, which are proceeding at a rapid pace to resume normal operations.

The disruption has significantly impacted connectivity along the Koraput-Kirandul line, a vital route linking Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and beyond.

The following trains have been affected: –

Cancelled:

  • 18107/18108 Rourkela-Jagdalpur-Rourkela Express (from Rourkela on July 3 and Jagdalpur on July 4) due to rake adjustments.
  • 18448 Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express (from Jagdalpur on July 4).

Partially Cancelled:

  • 58501/58502 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Passenger (July 4) will operate only between Visakhapatnam and Araku, with cancellation between Araku and Kirandul.
  • 18005/18006 Howrah-Jagdalpur-Howrah Samaleswari Express (from Howrah on July 3 and Jagdalpur on July 4 and 5) will run only between Howrah and Koraput, cancelled between Koraput and Jagdalpur.
  • 18515/18516 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express (from Visakhapatnam on July 3 and Kirandul on July 4) will operate only between Visakhapatnam and Koraput, cancelled between Koraput and Jagdalpur.
  • 08445/08446 Jagdalpur-Puri-Jagdalpur Rath Yatra Special (from Jagdalpur on July 4 and 5, and Puri on July 6 and 7) will run only between Koraput and Puri, cancelled between Koraput and Jagdalpur.

The East Coast Railway has prioritised the restoration of the affected section, with teams working tirelessly to clear the tracks. Passengers are advised to check with the railway authorities for real-time updates on train schedules and possible rescheduling.

The ECoR has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that all efforts are being made to minimise disruptions. Alternative travel arrangements are being explored for affected passengers, and updates will be shared as restoration progresses.

As restoration continues, the focus remains on ensuring passenger safety and resuming normalcy on this critical rail corridor.
