A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Kalimela village of Malkangiri district when a two-year-old boy, Mahesh Madhi, drowned in a water container near his home.

The unfortunate incident has left the local community in deep sorrow, highlighting concerns over child safety and household hazards.

According to reports, Mahesh’s father had gone into the forest to gather wood, while his mother, Dule Madhi, briefly stepped out for sanitation purposes. In their absence, the young boy wandered near a plastic water container kept for household chores. Tragically, while playing, he fell into the container. Unable to pull himself out, he drowned.

Upon returning home, his mother discovered him partially submerged. Despite immediate efforts to rescue him, it was too late—Mahesh had already succumbed.

The local police station, upon receiving information, arrived at the scene and registered a case (No. 23/25) of an unnatural death. Mahesh’s body was sent to Kalimela Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination to confirm the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Meanwhile, the investigating officer, ASI Arati Nayak, is carrying out further inquiries under the supervision of station officer Chandra Kant Tandi.
