The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms across various districts in Odisha, forecasting potential relief from the ongoing heatwave that has gripped parts of the state.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph are expected in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar from March 20 to March 23. The IMD further warned that some regions may experience even higher wind speeds of up to 60 kmph.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions continue to affect districts like Bargarh, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Sonepur. With temperatures soaring, these areas remain under a yellow alert for the next few days.
The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution during both heatwaves and thunderstorms to mitigate risks. While the thunderstorms may bring some respite from the sweltering heat, the department has emphasized vigilance due to the potential hazards posed by strong winds and lightning.
