During his visit to the United States, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor addressed Pakistan’s alleged involvement in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.
Responding to a question from his son, Ishan Tharoor, the senior leader asserted that India had clear evidence, and no country on the delegation tour had demanded proof.
Tharoor presented three reasons to support India’s claims:
-
Historical Pattern & Mumbai Attacks:
Tharoor cited 37 years of repeated terror strikes from Pakistan followed by denial, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the Osama bin Laden safe house scandal. He pointed out India had captured a terrorist alive in 2008 whose details directly linked him to Pakistan. -
Resistance Front’s Claim:
He highlighted that the Resistance Front (TRF)—a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba—claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack within 45 minutes. Though the post was later deleted, it was already in the public domain. TRF is a banned outfit by the US and UN, but Pakistan’s position in the UN Committee has blocked formal listing. -
Funerals in Pakistan:
After India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7—its retaliatory precision strikes—funerals were held in Pakistan for terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba, with Pakistani police and army officers present.
Tharoor concluded, “We wouldn’t have acted without credible proof. The world knows who’s sheltering terror.”
