A tenant and his family spent the night outside in the cold after the landlord allegedly forcibly vacated their house in Bhubaneswar’s Damana area on Tuesday.
The tenant, identified as Soumyajit Mahapatra, claimed that the house owner removed household items in his absence. Earlier, a dispute had erupted between the two over rent, leading both parties to approach the Chandrasekharpur police station. During discussions, it was decided that the tenant would vacate the house by the end of the month.
Soumyajit alleged that despite this understanding, the landlord removed belongings before the agreed deadline. As a result, he was forced to remain outside the house with his wife and elderly mother throughout the night.
The tenant accused the landlord of deliberately taking the step when he was not present.
