The death toll from the devastating explosion at Sigachi Industries’ pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram has climbed to 34, according to Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj.
The blast, suspected to have been triggered by a chemical reaction, occurred on Monday, leveling parts of the facility and trapping workers under the debris.
Authorities have recovered 31 bodies from the wreckage, while three more victims succumbed to injuries in hospital. Rescue operations continue as teams search for possible survivors or more victims amid the rubble.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit the site on Tuesday morning, accompanied by Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha.
Sigachi Industries, known for manufacturing APIs, intermediates, excipients, and vitamin blends, is now under scrutiny as investigators probe the cause of the explosion. The state government has assured strict action and compensation for affected families.
This tragic incident has once again raised serious concerns about industrial safety standards and emergency preparedness in high-risk sectors.
