As Nitish Kumar took oath as the chief minister of Bihar for a historic fifth consecutive term and a record tenth overall, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav broke his silence following the electoral setback and congratulated the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at Patna’s iconic Gandhi Maidan, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, top NDA leaders, and chief ministers of several states.
Tejashwi congratulates Nitish, hopes for “positive, qualitative change”
Taking to X shortly after the ceremony, Tejashwi Yadav wished the chief minister and the new Council of Ministers well.
He posted,
“Hearty congratulations to Nitish Kumar on taking the oath as the chief minister of Bihar. Heartiest wishes to all the ministers of the Bihar government who were sworn in as members of the council of ministers.”
In another message, he expressed hope that the new NDA government would meet the expectations of the public.
“I hope that the new government will live up to the aspirations and expectations of responsible citizens, fulfil its promises and declarations, and bring positive and qualitative change to the lives of the people of Bihar,” he wrote.
Tejashwi, who previously won the Raghopur seat in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, retained his position as a prominent RJD face despite the party’s disappointing performance.
Nitish becomes longest-serving Bihar CM
Nitish Kumar’s latest oath cements his position as the longest-serving chief minister in Bihar’s history. Alongside him, BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers. A total of 18 ministers joined the cabinet.
RJD reacts to electoral defeat
Following the party’s poor performance in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the RJD reiterated its commitment to public service in a post on X.
The party stated:
“Public service is an unceasing process, an endless journey. Ups and downs are inevitable in it. No sorrow in defeat, no arrogance in victory. The Rashtriya Janata Dal is the party of the poor. It will continue to raise their voice.”
