A teacher’s death in Ladugaon village triggered shock as police detained her husband following murder allegations by her father.
Supriti Das, 30, taught at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Ladugaon. She married Prabhas Kumar Das of Sinajhar, Nuapada district, five years ago. Their marriage began peacefully, but later turned turbulent. Family members said Prabhas consumed alcohol daily and abused Supriti. Her father, Suranjan Das, brought the couple to his home village to protect his daughter. Recently, they shifted to a rented house in Ladugaon.
On Tuesday morning, Supriti attended school and returned home. Around 11 a.m., Prabhas phoned his in-laws, claiming Supriti had hanged herself with a scarf from a ceiling fan. Suranjan Das rushed with relatives and found Supriti’s body lying on the floor while Prabhas sat nearby.
Suranjan accused Prabhas of murdering his daughter in a planned manner. He informed Kokasara police, who arrived with scientific teams, examined the scene, and sent the body for postmortem. Police detained Prabhas for questioning based on the father’s complaint.
Local magistrate Mohan Charan Jena and Dharmagarh SDPO Varshitha Adepu reached the spot. Villagers demanded an impartial investigation into the teacher’s death.
