Actor and #MeToo whistleblower Tanushree Dutta has shared a distressing video on Instagram, alleging years of harassment at her home.
In the video posted Tuesday, Dutta appears visibly shaken and in tears, pleading for help and confirming she has sought police intervention.
“I’m being harassed in my own home. I just called the cops… I’m not well. I’ve been harassed so much in the last 4-5 years that my health has deteriorated,” she said in the video. She further explained that police advised her to visit the station to file a formal complaint and that she would likely do so in the coming days.
Dutta said she is unable to hire domestic help due to what she described as “planted maids” who allegedly stole from her and created a toxic living environment. “I have to do all my work… I’m being troubled in my own house,” she said, describing how strangers ring her doorbell and loud noises disturb her rest.
In a caption accompanying the video, Dutta wrote:
“I’m sick and tired of this harassment!! It’s been going on since 2018 #metoo. Aaj fed up hokar maine police ko call kiya. Please someone help me! Do something before it’s too late.”
She also posted a follow-up Instagram Story detailing persistent noise disturbances in her apartment, including “very loud banging noises at all odd hours” and unwanted visitors ignoring clear “Do Not Disturb” signs.
The #MeToo Background
Dutta became the face of India’s #MeToo movement in 2018 when she accused veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her during a film shoot in 2009. Though she had first raised the issue in 2008 with the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), the matter received renewed attention in 2018. Patekar has denied all allegations.
In October 2018, her lawyer Nitin Satpute filed an application at the Oshiwara police station seeking narco-analysis, lie detector, and brain mapping tests for Patekar and three others involved in the project: choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Samee Siddiqui, and director Rakesh Sarang.
Police Action Awaited
As of now, there has been no official statement from the police regarding her latest complaint. Dutta’s emotional appeal has triggered concern among fans and renewed calls for accountability and protection for whistleblowers in India’s entertainment industry.
