Director General of Police YB Khurania suspended Inspector-in-Charge Sandhyarani Jena of Talchua Marine Police Station, Kendrapara, following grave allegations of custodial torture.
The suspension order came hours after a mother and son accused police officials of subjecting them to third-degree assault inside the station.
The allegations triggered swift action from the state police chief. Khurania cited gross misconduct and dereliction of duty as grounds for suspension. He confirmed that formal disciplinary proceedings will follow against Jena.
During the suspension period, Jena will remain under the disciplinary control of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack. The Superintendent of Police, Kendrapara, received instructions to serve the suspension order and prepare draft charges with supporting evidence for the disciplinary process.
The incident drew sharp attention after the victims alleged brutal assault, including physical torture and threats inside the police station. The suspension of the Inspector-in-Charge marks a significant step in addressing custodial torture allegations and restoring accountability within the force.
The disciplinary proceedings will determine further action against Jena. The police leadership emphasised zero tolerance for custodial misconduct and assured strict enforcement of accountability measures.
