In a dramatic rescue operation, five tourists were saved from drowning at Puri Sea Beach on Sunday after being caught in powerful sea waves.
According to reports, three tourists initially struggled in the water as large waves suddenly intensified, catching them off guard. Within moments, they were swept further into the sea, prompting panic among fellow visitors.
Alert lifeguards stationed along the beach responded immediately. Demonstrating professionalism and swift coordination, the rescue team entered the rough waters and successfully brought all five tourists back to shore safely. Their timely intervention prevented what could have been a tragic incident.
Similar Incident Reported Earlier
This rescue comes close on the heels of a similar episode on December 23, 2025, when four tourists from West Bengal were saved from drowning near Sector No. 9 beach at Chaitanya Chhak in Puri.
In that incident, the visitors were bathing in the sea when they were suddenly dragged into deeper waters by strong currents. Bystanders quickly alerted lifeguards, who acted promptly and ensured everyone was rescued without injuries.
Repeated Warnings Against Strong Currents
Despite the presence of trained lifeguards at key points along Puri’s coastline, such incidents continue to occur. Authorities frequently caution tourists against venturing into deeper waters, particularly during periods of high tide and strong undercurrents.
Lifeguards consistently advise visitors to remain within designated safe zones and to pay attention to warning flags and announcements regarding rip currents.
Importance of Beach Safety Awareness
The latest rescue highlights both the unpredictability of sea conditions and the importance of adhering to safety advisories. Thanks to the vigilance and rapid response of the lifeguard team, five lives were saved.
Visitors to Puri are urged to prioritise safety, remain alert to changing sea conditions, and cooperate fully with beach authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
