Bhubaneswar: The field assessment for Phase III of Swachh Survekshan 2024 will commence on July 5, 2024. Like in previous years, assessors will visit cities to conduct independent validation of the progress claimed by the urban local bodies (ULBs).
National Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Urban, Roopa Mishra has written a letter to the Principal Secretary of State Housing and Urban Development Department today.
In her letter, Ms.Mishra said the Phase III survey will focus on the assessment of the complete value chain of waste management at ‘Bulk Waste Generators’ (BWGs).
The assessment agency will visit and validate all aspects of waste management, including but not limited to, collection, transportation, processing, and final disposal of waste generated by the BWGs within the ULB’s jurisdiction, she said.
In this regard, there are additional fields being added in the Swachhatam MIS portal. These fields are expected to be live by June 18, 2024 for the ULBs to fill in the relevant data, the Director informed.
In view of the above, she urged the H&UD Secretary to direct the State Mission Directors, Municipal Commissioners and Executive Officers of other ULBs to ensure that all staff of sanitation/solid waste management facilities (whether owned/ outsourced/ PPP mode) and the in charges of BWGs are sensitized in advance to ensure smooth assessment of claims made by the ULBs.
In 2023, Port city Surat bagged the top honours, alongside Indore, who had conquered the top spot alone for 6 consecutive years. In the category of cities with a population of less than 1 lakh, Sasvad, Patan and Lonavala secured the top three spots.
