China’s Sun Xinran claimed her maiden Grand Slam junior singles title at the US Open, defeating Russia’s Anna Pushkareva in a gripping three-set final.
In a repeat of the Wimbledon showdown, Sun avenged her London loss with a commanding 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 victory that lasted one hour and 47 minutes.
The 16-year-old top-ranked junior showcased remarkable consistency, converting six of eight break points and limiting her errors to 26, compared to Pushkareva’s 48. Sun’s dominance in the decider highlighted her resilience, especially after finishing runner-up at Roland Garros earlier this year.
This was the fourth meeting between the rivals across junior and professional circuits. Sun now leads the head-to-head, having also beaten Pushkareva in Milan and Sharm el-Sheikh. Both players are already making strides on the pro tour, with Sun ranked No. 599 and Pushkareva at No. 971 in the WTA PIF rankings.
Meanwhile, American sisters Annika and Kristina Penickova clinched the girls’ doubles title with a 7-6 (11), 6-3 win over Polina Berezina and Alisa Terentyeva. The triumph marked their second junior Grand Slam doubles crown after the Australian Open in 2025. For Kristina, it was her third doubles title, adding to her Wimbledon success last year.
