Jagatsinghpur: Odisha Vigilance today arrested a sub-inspector of police in Jagatsinghpur district for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.
The accused has been identified as Bibekananda Sahu, SI of Police (2017 batch), Kujanga Police Station.
The SI was the Investigating Officer (IO) of a miscellaneous case registered against the complt. as a result of a family dispute. The complainant had moved the court for anticipatory bail, and the court had ordered the IO on 29th May 2024 to release him and his other family members on bail. However, despite frequent approaches, the SI demanded Rs 8000 bribe for the same.
Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on 04.07.2024, wherein the accused Bibekananda Sahu was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.8,000 from the complainant.
Soon after receiving the bribe money at the Police Station, the accused left Kujanga Police Station and proceeded towards Jagatsinghpur. However, the vigilance team chased him and caught hold of him.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Sahu and seized in the presence of witnesses. Both the hand wash as well as pant pocket wash of Sahu gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming his acceptance and handling of bribe money.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the Govt. a residential quarter of Sahu inside the Kujanga PS campus, the residential house at Govindpur, PS-Sadar, Dhenkanal and his office chamber.
Accused Bibekananda Sahu has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court. In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.17 dated 03.07.2024 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
