The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued significant weather warnings for Odisha, forecasting a mix of thunderstorms, hailstorms, heavy rainfall, and heatwaves across the state over the coming days.
An orange alert has been declared for districts such as Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Ganjam, highlighting the likelihood of severe weather, including gusty winds of 50–60 km/h and hailstorms. These conditions are expected in the afternoon and evening hours, prompting residents to prepare for potentially disruptive storms.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for heatwave conditions in districts like Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur. With soaring temperatures, residents in these areas are advised to take precautions against extreme heat.
According to the IMD, specific weather alerts are categorised by day to help residents and local authorities prepare adequately. The department warns of thunderstorms with gusty winds of up to 50 km/h in districts such as Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, and Ganjam, coupled with localised heavy rainfall in areas like Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.
The state is set to witness dynamic weather patterns, alternating between stormy conditions and extreme heat, underlining the importance of adhering to IMD warnings and safety guidelines.
