The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for multiple districts in Odisha as a cyclonic circulation intensifies over the north Bay of Bengal.
This developing weather system is forecasted to transform into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, triggering heavy rainfall and gusty winds across the state.
According to IMD’s advisory, districts such as Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada are likely to receive intense downpours today, accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated pockets. Wind speeds are expected to reach 30–40 km/h in affected areas, further intensifying over the coming days.
Meteorological models predict that the rainfall will peak around July 27, with widespread showers across most regions of Odisha. The system is believed to be a remnant of Cyclone Wipha and may gain strength as it re-enters the Bay of Bengal in cyclonic form.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone and hilly areas, as the IMD forecasts sustained weather activity until the end of the week.
