Nearly 3,000 households in Ganjam district paid no electricity bills in May 2026, underscoring the growing success of rooftop solar adoption in the region. A total of 2,943 consumers recorded zero power bills, while 11187 Nos. of rooftop solar systems have already been installed under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, making Ganjam one of the leading solar districts in Odisha.

A total of 2,943 consumers in Ganjam district recorded zero electricity bills during the month after installing rooftop solar systems under the flagship scheme, making the district one of the leading contributors to Odisha’s renewable energy transition.

The momentum behind solar adoption continues to grow in the district. So far, 7,085 rooftop solar systems have been installed in Ganjam under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. In addition, 4102 solar rooftop systems have been commissioned through TPSODL’s Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, which simplifies the adoption process for consumers and facilitates access to rooftop solar solutions. Reflecting the increasing interest among consumers, 16,760 applications have already been received from Ganjam district under the scheme.

Across Southern Odisha, TPSODL has facilitated the installation of 16756 rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Under the ULA Model, the utility has enabled at Rs. 1,875.00 for a 1 kW rooftop solar installation for a domestic consumer, further accelerating the region’s shift towards clean and sustainable energy.

The success of the initiative is visible in the lives of consumers who are now generating their own electricity and significantly reducing their monthly expenses.

Sharing his experience, Sri Trilochan Mallick of Belaguntha in Bhanjanagar said, “With the support of TPSODL, I installed a 3 kW rooftop solar system under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Earlier, my monthly electricity bill used to be between ₹600 and ₹800. After the installation, my bill has come down to zero. It is a great benefit for my family.”

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said, ‘’The fact that nearly 3,000 consumers in Ganjam received zero electricity bills in a single month demonstrates the tangible benefits of rooftop solar adoption. The enthusiastic response from consumers reflects the success of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and growing confidence in clean energy solutions. We remain committed to enabling more households to harness solar power and contribute to a sustainable and energy-secure future for Odisha.”

To further accelerate rooftop solar adoption, TPSODL continues to conduct consumer awareness programmes, community outreach initiatives and stakeholder engagement activities across its operational area, enabling more households to avail the benefits of solar energy and government subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
