Six tourists from Punjab died after a steamer carrying about 30 passengers capsized in the Yamuna River at Vrindavan on Friday afternoon.

Rescue teams rushed to the site and began large-scale operations to trace missing passengers.

Officials confirmed that the vessel overturned midstream, leading to the deaths by drowning. Rescue teams recovered bodies from the river while continuing to search for others still missing. Witnesses reported chaos as the steamer lost balance and toppled, throwing passengers into the water.

Police personnel questioned survivors and witnesses to gather details about the accident. A large crowd gathered along the riverbank as divers and rescue workers searched for those unaccounted for. Authorities deployed additional boats and equipment to speed up the operation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed senior officials to reach the accident site immediately and oversee relief measures. He instructed them to ensure that missing passengers are located and that families of victims receive necessary assistance.

Rescue teams continue to comb the river, while officials coordinate relief efforts. The tragedy has cast a shadow over Vrindavan, a town known for its religious tourism, as families await news of their loved ones.
