Six migrant workers from Odisha tragically lost their lives in a massive rock collapse at the Satyakrishna Granite Mine near Ballikurava, Bapatla district. The incident also left ten other labourers critically injured.
Among the deceased, Bhaskar Bisoi and Tukuna Dalei, both residents of Alara village under Dhepaguda Gram Panchayat and Mohana Police Station in Gajapati district, were identified—the remaining four hail from the Digapahandi block in Ganjam district, intensifying grief across southern Odisha.
Emergency rescue teams managed to recover four bodies while efforts continue to retrieve the remaining two. The injured were rushed to Narasaraopet Government Hospital for critical care.
Bapatla SP Tushar Dudi oversaw on-ground operations, while Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu extended condolences and ordered comprehensive medical aid and an official probe into the collapse.
The incident has reignited discussions around the safety of Odia migrant workers in high-risk job zones outside the state.
