Six Held For Brutal Murder Of Former Sarpanch In Berhampur

Berhampur: Police claims to have cracked the murder case of Pradip Bisoyi, former Sarpanch of Anatei Gram panchayat in Kukudakhandi block of Ganjam, with the arrest of six accused including a juvenile.

The arrested accused were identified as Jayasen Swain (42), Sagar Ganga Swain (21), Mithun Swain (31), Nandan Behera (21), Kanhu Swain (26), and a juvenile, all hailing from the deceased Sarpanch’s native village Banthapalli, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra at a press conference here today.

“Three swords used in the crime have been recovered. While one of the swords was recovered from the crime scene, two others were seized from a nearby pond,” the Berhampur SP said, adding that “two bikes and six mobile phones were also seized from them”.

The accused juvenile has been sent to a correctional home, while the arrested accused were forwarded to the court. The number of arrests would increase during the course of investigation, he added

A preliminary probe suggests that the murder was fall out of past rivalry. However, the probe is underway in other angles also. We will pray the court for remand of the accused persons to continue the investigation,” SP Mishra further added.

On October 5, miscreants brutally murdered the former Sarpanch of Anatei SP, Pradip Bisoyi, on the Beach Road. Pradeep, a resident of Berhampur, was on his way to his village Banthapalli at 7.30 am the miscreants attacked him with swords killing him on the spot.

Following a complaint, a special team comprising of Badabazar and Digapahandi Police Station personnel was formed and the accused were apprehended.
