Karnataka’s political circles witnessed high drama on Thursday as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hosted a breakfast meeting at his Kaveri residence.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar joined senior Congress leaders, fueling speculation of a leadership transition.
Reports indicated Siddaramaiah may resign later in the day. He reportedly sought an afternoon appointment with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to tender his resignation. During the meeting, Shivakumar touched Siddaramaiah’s feet and shared a warm embrace, signalling respect and hinting at the possible change in leadership.
Several ministers, including Priyank Kharge, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, and HK Patil, arrived at the CM’s residence amid tight security. The gathering added weight to speculation that the Congress government in Karnataka is preparing for a shift at the halfway mark of its term.
Party insiders revealed that discussions over Shivakumar’s elevation have persisted for months. While the Congress leadership has publicly dismissed speculation, sources confirmed deliberations are ongoing. Siddaramaiah’s potential resignation could pave the way for Shivakumar to assume the top post, marking a significant political moment in the state.
