Shubman Gill will join the Punjab squad on January 1 for its Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 fixtures against Sikkim and Goa.
Punjab has already won its first two matches and looks forward to Gill’s presence strengthening the batting unit.
Sources in the Punjab Cricket Association confirmed that Gill assured them of his participation in the games scheduled for January 3 and 6. He will link up with the team in Jaipur. While Gill expressed interest in playing the final group league match against Mumbai, his availability depends on the BCCI’s preparatory camp for the upcoming home series against New Zealand beginning January 11.
Gill, recently dropped from India’s T20 World Cup squad, has been sidelined due to injuries. He suffered an impact injury to his right foot and later missed the second Test against South Africa because of a neck injury. After recovering, he resumed training in Mohali, preparing for his domestic return.
The BCCI directed all players to participate in domestic tournaments when not on national duty. This mandate raised speculation that Gill might play the entire Vijay Hazare Trophy, alongside teammate Abhishek Sharma, who featured in Punjab’s opener against Maharashtra.
Punjab started the tournament strongly, defeating Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. Team management believes Gill’s inclusion will further boost confidence and add depth to the batting lineup as the competition progresses.
