Rourkela Police launched a coordinated operation against an online betting racket after receiving confidential intelligence.
Teams from Plantside, Uditnagar, Bondamunda, and Raghunathpalli police stations carried out simultaneous raids at several locations.
Investigators discovered strong links between the racket and benami account providers as well as hawala operators. Evidence confirmed illegal money transfers routed through these networks. Police teams seized more than Rs 20 lakh in cash during the raids.
Authorities detained five individuals and began intensive interrogation. Investigators are examining financial transactions, bank accounts, and digital records to uncover the full scale of the racket.
Police officials confirmed that further raids are underway to identify and apprehend other people connected to the network. The crackdown demonstrates the district’s determination to dismantle organised betting operations and disrupt illegal financial flows.
The operation highlights the growing challenge of online betting networks in Odisha. Law enforcement agencies continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement measures to curb such activities.
