Indian skipper Shubman Gill has entered the elite 3,000‑run club in Test cricket, achieving the milestone during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Gill reached the landmark at 26 years and 349 days, becoming the fourth‑youngest Indian to do so, behind Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
In 43 Tests, Gill has scored 3,004 runs in 77 innings at an average of 43.53, including 11 centuries and 8 fifties. His strike rate stands at 61.59. As captain, Gill’s form has been exceptional—1,111 runs in 18 innings at an average of 74.06, with six centuries and a best of 269.
On day one in Colombo, India ended the first session at 88/2, with Gill (13) and Devdutt Padikkal (11) unbeaten. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal (45) and KL Rahul (18) fell cheaply. Debutant Saransh Jain featured in the XI, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav missed out due to illness.
Gill’s achievement adds another chapter to his rising stature in Indian cricket, reinforcing his role as both a prolific batter and a dependable leader.
