A Kolkata court has denied bail to Wajahat Khan, who had filed a complaint against influencer Sharmishta Panoli.
Khan, accused of spreading hate speech and hurting religious sentiments, was arrested on June 9 after evading police summons since June 1.
Authorities registered a case against Khan at the Golf Green Police Station following allegations that his online statements contained inflammatory and derogatory remarks targeting Hindu deities and traditions. Despite repeated notices, Khan remained untraceable until the police detained him after multiple raids.
The complaint against Khan, filed by the Shree Ram Swabhiman Parishad, cited explicit language allegedly used by him to describe the Hindu community. Legal experts highlight that the case underscores concerns over online speech and its consequences.
Meanwhile, Panoli, previously arrested for communal remarks, secured interim bail with conditions, including restrictions on travel and a monetary deposit.
