The Maoist organization suffered a major blow as 86 rebels, including 66 men and 20 women, surrendered to the Telangana police.
They turned themselves in at the Hemachandrapuram Police Headquarters in Kothagudem, led by Kothagudem Multi-Zone IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy.
The surrendered Maoists, hailing from Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, cited fear of police encounters as one of their primary reasons for surrendering. This wave of surrenders has been attributed to the success of Telangana’s “Operation Cheyutha,” a campaign aimed at encouraging Maoist cadres to join the mainstream and rebuild their lives.
As a part of the rehabilitation process, the surrendered individuals received Rs 25,000 each in immediate assistance. This move reflects the state’s commitment to combating extremism and fostering social reintegration.
The surrender marks a significant step in reducing Maoist presence in the region and promoting peace in border districts.
