Security forces achieved a major breakthrough against Left Wing Extremism after uncovering a Maoist arms dump in the dense forests of Malkangiri district on June 9.

Joint teams of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Border Security Force (BSF) launched the operation based on intelligence gathered from surrendered Naxals.

The search took place in forest areas of Kirmitti and Katuapadar under Mathili Police Station limits, near the border with Bastar district in Chhattisgarh. Around 5:30 am, forces discovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and IED-making components believed to belong to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC).

Recovered items included 50 empty detonator caps, 6 crackers, 3.5 kg of gunpowder, and 20 kg of splinters. Security forces also seized wires, auto devices, codex wire, rechargeable batteries, printer cartridges, syringes, saline bottles, cotton rolls, tents, haversack bags, knives, scissors, screwdrivers, and Maoist literature.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Vinodh Patil confirmed the seizure during a press conference. He said the recovery involved 32 types of Maoist-related materials, including explosives and daily-use articles. He described the operation as a significant setback to Maoist activities in the region.
