Security personnel have seized approximately 18,000 detonators from the Saranda Forest region near Hushipi village under the jurisdiction of Tonto Police Station.
The area lies in the sensitive Odisha–Jharkhand border zone, known for Maoist activity.
The recovery was part of a joint intelligence-based operation launched by the elite Jharkhand Jaguar unit and the Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) 60th Battalion. Acting on a tip-off, the forces combed the dense forest and uncovered a massive cache of explosives that had been carefully hidden in rugged terrain.
Experts from the bomb disposal squad were immediately deployed to neutralise the threat. All recovered materials were safely defused on-site, ensuring no risk to civilian areas or patrolling personnel.
Officials suspect the detonators were part of a large-scale plot by Maoist operatives to disrupt peace in the region or to target infrastructure projects under development. This is the latest in a series of efforts by the security establishment to dismantle the operational capabilities of left-wing extremist groups in the eastern belt.
Authorities have confirmed that further search operations are underway to trace other potential hideouts and operatives.
This significant success marks a continuing trend in counterinsurgency victories and reflects the coordinated efficiency of India’s paramilitary forces in destabilising Maoist infrastructure along sensitive borders.
