A second-year postgraduate student from Sambalpur University was fatally attacked and has been transferred to a private medical facility in Bhubaneswar in critical condition.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation.
The attack occurred near the Metakani temple on VIP Road, where the student was found in a critical state, bleeding from deep injuries to her face. She was initially admitted to Burla VIMSAR, but her condition worsened, prompting her family to shift her to Bhubaneswar.
Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo confirmed that the police have launched an investigation following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. He clarified that there was no rape involved, but the assault left the student severely injured. A police team has been formed to investigate the case, and two autorickshaws and a car have been seized in connection with the incident. The accused has been arrested.
The victim, a second-year PG student in the Library Science department at Sambalpur University, had her mobile phone stolen during the attack, according to her father. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the incident.
