The Thelkoloi police seized 23 high-end trucks transporting the material without valid transit permits.
The trucks were intercepted near Thelkuli Government High School late last night while allegedly unloading their cargo.
The seizure comes in response to a call for stricter enforcement from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), which had flagged concerns over the environmental hazards posed by illegal fly ash dumping. With the investigation now underway, authorities aim to identify the transporters and industrial entities behind the unauthorised movement.
Fly ash, a residue from coal combustion in thermal plants, requires regulated disposal due to its hazardous components. Improper handling can lead to soil and water contamination, contributing to long-term ecological damage. The recent crackdown underscores the necessity of stricter compliance with transportation laws and environmental safety standards.
Officials have assured that stringent action will be taken against those found guilty, reinforcing the state’s commitment to curbing illegal fly ash smuggling and mitigating environmental risks.
