Notorious criminal Mahesh Kumar was injured in an encounter by the Sambalpur police in the Aintapalli Police Station area in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 5:45 AM, near the road towards the airstrip.
During the arrest, Mahesh Kumar fired at the police, prompting the police to retaliate. He was shot in the left leg and is currently being treated at the district headquarters’ medical center before being transferred to Burla Bhimsar under tight security. Authorities confirm there is no danger to his life.
The police seized a gun, bullets, and Rs 40,000 in looted cash from the accused. A complaint was filed yesterday at the Ainthapali police station, alleging that Mahesh Kumar had looted Rs 45,000 by brandishing a gun. In response, the police formed a team and raided various locations. The chase culminated on the dyke road, where Mahesh Kumar fired two rounds at the police, leading to the retaliatory gunfire.
