A two-day joint coastal security drill, named ‘Sagar Kavach-2’, began today along the Odisha and West Bengal coastlines, bringing together the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, CISF, Marine Police, Forest and Fisheries Departments, Customs, district administrations, Paradip Port authorities, and industrial representatives.
The exercise simulates seaborne terrorist threats, with forces divided into Red Team (acting as infiltrators planting dummy explosives) and Blue Team (carrying out surveillance and neutralisation operations).
Ahead of the drill, local fishermen were sensitised, asked to carry valid IDs and registration documents, and report suspicious activity. The exercise aims to test inter-agency coordination, identify gaps, and enhance real-time response along the eastern coast. The drill will conclude on Wednesday, with post-exercise assessments planned to further strengthen India’s coastal security framework.
