Sadique Alam, IAS, assumed charge as Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary of the Public Enterprises Department on February 7, 2026 (FN).
Immediately after taking charge, he reviewed the Department’s mandate, functions, and ongoing initiatives related to State Public Sector Undertakings (SPSUs).
Alam stressed the importance of adopting a proactive, reform‑oriented approach to strengthen the corporate governance framework of State PSUs. He advised institutionalised performance reviews and preparation of clear growth and financial trajectories to improve efficiency and sustainability.
He highlighted the need for the timely appointment of Independent Directors and Functional Directors to enhance leadership, governance, and decision‑making. He urged officers and staff to work with teamwork and shared responsibility to transform State PSUs into professionally managed, vibrant, and profit‑making entities.
Alam linked his vision to the Government of Odisha’s Vision 2036 and Vision 2047, emphasising that State PSUs must contribute significantly to economic growth. He called for reforms that would align public enterprises with modern corporate practices and ensure accountability.
The new Commissioner‑cum‑Secretary’s agenda reflects a strong push towards efficiency, transparency, and sustainability in Odisha’s public enterprises sector.
