Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina advanced to the Miami Open semi-finals, setting up a blockbuster clash between the world’s top two players.
Sabalenka Holds Off Baptiste
World number one Aryna Sabalenka defeated American Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-4. Baptiste, playing her first WTA 1000 quarter-final, pushed Sabalenka with heavy shots but faltered at crucial moments. Sabalenka broke Baptiste in the first set after a double fault and sealed the match when Baptiste opened her final service game with three consecutive double faults. “She really pushed me. I’m happy I held the pressure,” Sabalenka said.
Rybakina Rallies Past Pegula
Second-ranked Elena Rybakina overcame Jessica Pegula 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Pegula raced to a 4-0 lead and took the opening set in 35 minutes. Rybakina regrouped, broke for a 4-2 lead in the second set, and controlled the decider with an early break. “It’s always tough against Jessica. I’m happy I managed to bounce back,” Rybakina said.
Renewed Rivalry
Sabalenka and Rybakina have faced each other frequently this season. Rybakina edged Sabalenka in the Australian Open final, handing her only defeat of 2026. Sabalenka avenged that loss at Indian Wells earlier this month. “We’ve had battles, all of them a show. I’m excited to face her again,” Sabalenka said.
