Just hours before the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 announcement, Russia expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s candidature. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov reportedly made the statement on Friday, highlighting Moscow’s appreciation for Trump’s efforts to curb the war in Ukraine.
Russia has repeatedly praised Trump’s initiatives toward peace, particularly his recent diplomatic efforts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also indicated that Kyiv would consider nominating Trump for the Nobel if he successfully secures a ceasefire.
Trump’s Push for the Nobel Peace Prize
In recent months, Trump has actively campaigned for the prestigious award. This includes public statements claiming he deserves the prize and direct appeals to Norwegian officials. The momentum for his bid increased after he played a key role in brokering a ceasefire and potential peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
Trump’s son, Eric Trump, also took to X (formerly Twitter) urging followers to “retweet if you believe @realDonaldTrump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.” Meanwhile, the White House’s official X account posted a photo dubbing Trump “The Peace President.”
Hours ahead of the announcement, Trump discussed his achievements in helping secure peace in Gaza and ending what he described as “eight wars.” He also criticised former President Barack Obama for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize early in his term.
“He got it for doing nothing. Obama got a prize — he didn’t even know what — they gave it to him for absolutely nothing but destroying our country,” Trump said.
The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 is scheduled to be announced today by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and global attention is focused on whether Trump will officially claim the accolade.
