Berhampur Sadar Police have uncovered a massive railway job scam that defrauded several aspirants of over Rs 65 lakh and arrested the mastermind.
The accused, identified as A. Vighneshwar Rao Dora of Kukudakhandi, was arrested on Friday and produced in court, bringing a major fraud racket to light.
According to officials, Dora lured victims by claiming connections with senior railway authorities and promised secure government jobs. He convinced them through forged admit cards, counterfeit treasury challans, and mock recruitment procedures, including fake exams and medical tests conducted in Kolkata.
One victim, S Krushnachandra Dora of Kansamari village, filed the initial complaint after realising the job promises were hollow. The investigation revealed that at least five individuals were duped, with Rs 16 lakh collected from a small group alone.
Police seized fake appointment letters and forged railway documents during the arrest. “The setup was elaborate enough to gain the victims’ trust,” said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M. “We’re probing further to determine if similar scams have occurred elsewhere.”
The case highlights rising concerns over fraudulent employment schemes and the urgent need for verification measures before trusting recruitment claims.
