In a decision that has sparked widespread concern, the government has raised the prices of LPG cylinders by Rs 50, effective immediately.

This price adjustment applies to both Ujwala scheme beneficiaries and non-Ujwala consumers, increasing their costs to Rs 550 and Rs 853 respectively.

The Ujwala scheme, introduced to provide subsidized LPG connections to economically weaker sections, has been a lifeline for many households. However, the latest hike puts additional financial strain on families already grappling with rising living costs. Non-Ujwala consumers, too, are expected to feel the pinch of the increased price.

While officials have yet to release an explanation for the price hike, experts suggest that fluctuating international energy rates might be a contributing factor. The move has already drawn criticism from several quarters, with many questioning its timing and potential repercussions on the average household budget.

The revised LPG cylinder prices come at a time when inflationary pressures are already impacting essential commodities, making this decision a matter of intense debate.
