Riyan Parag Blamed for Sanju Samson’s Possible Exit from Rajasthan Royals

Former India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath has stirred controversy by naming Riyan Parag as the key reason behind Sanju Samson’s potential decision to leave Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

Multiple reports suggest Samson has asked the Royals management to release him before next year’s tournament, though no official decision has been made. Head coach Rahul Dravid and the franchise are yet to confirm the move.

In the IPL 2025 season, Samson began as an impact substitute after the National Cricket Academy (NCA) withheld his wicketkeeping clearance. During his absence from the gloves, Riyan Parag took over captaincy duties. Samson later returned as skipper but suffered a side strain against Delhi Capitals, forcing him out again and allowing Parag to lead once more.

The season also saw the rise of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed the fastest century by an Indian in the tournament, forming a strong opening pair with Yashasvi Jaiswal. With the top order seemingly settled, Samson’s future role in the team appeared uncertain.

“I feel Riyan Parag is the reason. If you consider him for captaincy, how do you expect someone like Samson to stay?” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.

Rumours are also linking Samson with a move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with the five-time champions reportedly interested in acquiring him as a potential successor to MS Dhoni. Badrinath sees Samson as a top-order option but doubts whether CSK could fit him into their already stable batting lineup without a significant trade.

Whether Samson stays in Jaipur or dons the yellow of CSK, the IPL 2026 season could see a major shift in franchise dynamics.
