Despite ending the season with a magnificent unbeaten century, Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2025 campaign concluded on a disciplinary note, with the BCCI imposing a hefty Rs 30 lakh fine on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain for maintaining a slow over rate in Match 70 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Pant’s blistering 118* off 61 balls, featuring 8 sixes and 11 fours, helped LSG post a formidable 227/3. However, RCB chased down the target in 18.4 overs, clinching a six-wicket win and spoiling Pant’s heroic effort. The defeat, followed by a Code of Conduct breach, added to the LSG skipper’s woes.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that this was Pant’s third over-rate offence of the season, which triggered an escalated fine beyond the standard ₹12 lakh for captains on first-time offences.
“As it was his team’s third offence under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh,” the BCCI confirmed in an official statement.
Each member of the LSG playing XI — including the Impact Player — was also fined Rs 12 lakh or 50% of their match fee, whichever was lower, for the repeated offence.
Despite the fine, Pant earned plaudits for breaking a seven-year IPL century drought, anchoring LSG’s innings after an early blow. His 152-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh (67 off 31) was a season highlight.
