Tension gripped Chandabali Tehsil in Bhadrak district on Tuesday after Revenue Inspector (RI) Tapas Ranjan Jena was brutally assaulted inside his office by locals.
The incident occurred when Subas Das of Jagannathpur village entered the RI office and confronted Jena over a legal heir certificate issue. Witnesses said Das dragged the officer from his chair and attacked him mercilessly.
The injured RI was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Jena later lodged a written complaint with Chandbali police and the Tehsildar, seeking justice.
Tehsildar Bhabatosh Mallik condemned the attack, calling it a shameful act against a government employee performing his duty. He explained that the dispute stemmed from a legal heir certificate issued in 2022, which had been used for property transactions. During recent survey corrections, discrepancies surfaced, leading to complaints. Both parties were summoned earlier, and the matter was moving towards resolution.
Mallik said the sudden assault was carried out by a group of miscreants who had no direct knowledge of the case. He assured strict legal action against those involved, adding that the district administration will consult with the Collector to ensure justice.
