The Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, today convicted retired Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Abhimanyu Sahoo, formerly posted at Rasol Police Station in Dhenkanal district, in a decade-old bribery case registered by Odisha Vigilance.
Sahoo was found guilty under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d), Section 7 and Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 120-B IPC for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a college student in exchange for releasing his seized motorcycle. The court sentenced him to undergo simple imprisonment for two years and pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
Following the conviction of the retired officer, Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority for the complete stoppage of pensionary benefits of Abhimanyu Sahoo as per existing rules.
The case was investigated by Satya Narayan Pattnaik, then Inspector, Vigilance Cuttack Division. Special Public Prosecutors Hemant Kumar Khatua and Smt. Anugyna Mohanty represented the prosecution in court.
