Retired IAS officer Satya Prakash Nanda passed away at the age of 72 following a massive heart attack.
Nanda, who belonged to the Odisha cadre, had an illustrious career spanning 36 years. He held numerous significant positions in various departments of the Odisha government and also served as Chairman of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board and the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).
Nanda was instrumental in developing industrial infrastructure and environment management in Odisha, pioneering the implementation of the ‘Polluter Pays’ principle. Known for his indomitable spirit and impeccable integrity, he made significant contributions to sectors such as Science and Technology, IT, Higher Education, and Agriculture.
Nanda, born on March 19, 1952, earned his Master’s in Political Science from the University of Delhi and briefly served as a lecturer before joining the IAS in 1975. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law. His last rites will be conducted at Satya Nagar crematorium, according to family members.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Shri Satya Prakash Nanda.
In a heartfelt message, he reminisced about their professional association, stating, “When I was the Industries Minister, Satya Prakash Nanda was the Industries Secretary. Personally, he was a gentle, honest, and humble person. During his long tenure of more than 36 years, he worked in many important departments like Agricultural Production Commissioner, Industries, Home, Science and Technology, Higher Education, and Chairman of Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission, and made many important contributions to the departments.”
The Deputy Chief Minister offered his prayers and said, “May the departed soul rest in peace. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Lord Jagannath. May God grant infinite patience, courage, and strength to the family of SP Nanda.”
