Continuous heavy rainfall in Bhubaneswar has caused extensive waterlogging across multiple areas of the city, disrupting daily life.
Despite the deployment of pump sets, drainage failures persisted, compelling officials to dig through roads to drain the stagnant water. Residents alleged that up to 12 feet of water had inundated their homes, ruining furniture, refrigerators, and other appliances.
Many accused the BMC of repeated negligence, claiming officials conduct inspections merely for photo-ops without implementing lasting solutions.
Responding to the outcry, the BMC Commissioner acknowledged a major drain blockage and said efforts were underway in coordination with the Water Resources Department. He cited logistical challenges due to ongoing rainfall as the reason for the delay in permanent repairs. “Temporary arrangements have been made, and a permanent solution will be implemented soon,” he added.
As rains continue to batter Bhubaneswar, frustration grows over the city’s fragile urban infrastructure and lack of monsoon preparedness.
