Veteran Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Sunday, leaving the state’s music and film fraternity in deep mourning. He had been undergoing prolonged treatment at the premier medical institute following a critical health episode late last year.
Majumdar was admitted to the emergency department of AIIMS Bhubaneswar on September 4, 2025, in a critical condition. Due to the severity of his illness, he was placed on ventilator support and remained under intensive medical care for several weeks.
According to medical sources, the composer was battling multiple health complications, including high blood pressure and chronic liver disease. Despite sustained treatment and close monitoring by doctors, his condition remained fragile for an extended period.
On December 31, 2025, hospital authorities had indicated that Majumdar’s health had shown signs of improvement and that he was likely to be discharged within a few days. However, his condition later deteriorated, leading to his demise.
Abhijit Majumdar was a highly respected figure in the Odia music industry, known for his memorable contributions to Odia cinema as well as independent music. His work earned him widespread admiration for its emotional depth and contemporary appeal.
News of his passing has sent shockwaves across Odisha, with artists, filmmakers, musicians, and fans expressing grief and paying tribute to his enduring legacy. Majumdar’s contribution to Odia music is expected to continue inspiring generations of musicians.
