New Delhi: Reliance Jio has discreetly brought back its Rs 999 prepaid plan after the recent price hike to Rs 1,199 on July 3, 2024. This revamped plan presents a mix of features and advantages.
The updated Rs 999 plan’s most significant alteration is the increased validity period, now 98 days instead of the former 84 days, granting users an extra 14 days of service. However, this extended validity results in a decrease in the total data allowance. The plan now provides 2GB of data daily, amounting to 192GB for the entire period, a reduction from the earlier 3GB, which totalled 252 GB.
Despite the lowered daily data quota, the Rs 999 plan compensates with the benefit of unlimited 5G data. Customers in regions covered by Jio’s True 5G network and possessing 5G-enabled devices can enjoy unlimited 5G data. This plan dubbed the “Hero 5G” plan, is also associated with the Rs 349 plan, the introductory package for unlimited 5G data access.
The plan continues to offer 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calls, providing users with extensive connectivity options.
In comparison, Airtel, a competing telecom provider, has a Rs 979 plan with an 84-day validity, 2GB of data per day, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS daily. Airtel’s plan also includes unlimited 5G data and a bonus 56-day Amazon Prime membership, enhancing the value for its subscribers.
Jio’s re-launch of the Rs 999 plan seems to be a tactical response to meet customer demand for longer validity and unlimited 5G, despite a lower daily data allowance. With the telecom sector’s growing competition, Jio and Airtel are constantly evolving their plans to draw and keep customers.
