The reconstituted Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee is set to hold its first official meeting on September 3, 2025, in Puri, as announced by the temple administration.
Chaired by Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb, the meeting will formally induct ten newly appointed members and initiate discussions on several pressing matters.
Among the top priorities are the introduction of a streamlined queue system for devotees and a comprehensive inventory of the Ratna Bhandar, the temple’s revered treasury. The committee is also expected to approve rituals for the upcoming lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan), aligning with traditional practices.
The new appointments, made under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act of 1954, come nearly 11 months after the previous committee’s tenure expired. The members include representatives from the Sevak community, religious institutions, and financial experts such as former Comptroller and Auditor General Girish Chandra Murmu and chartered accountants K. Sabat and Mahesh Kumar Sahoo.
A day prior to the committee meeting, the Chhatisha Nijog—a body of temple servitors—will convene on September 2 to deliberate on ritual-related matters.
The Managing Committee plays a pivotal role in overseeing the administration, rituals, and preservation of the 12th-century temple, one of Hinduism’s holiest shrines.
