Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is out on a 40-day parole, seems to be having a field day with virtual satsangs, music videos, and the recent Diwali celebrations.
Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year jail term in connection with the rape of two of his female disciples at his ashram in Sirsa, on Wednesday (Oct 26), announced that his adopted daughter, Honeypreet will now be known by the name ‘Ruhani didi’, or ‘Ruh di’.
“I have also given her a name and now I call her Ruh-Di or Ruhani didi because everyone used to say Guru ji. Everyone calls her ‘didi didi’ and they confuse this with other women disciples,” he added. Ram Rahim announced the name change in his speech to the Saad Sangat at the Dera in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat.
Notably, Honeypreet was arrested in 2017 for inciting riots in Panchkula and elsewhere. She was released on bail in 2019. The self-styled godman was convicted by a special CBI court in August, 2017 in Panchkula. In 2021, Ram Rahim, along with four others, was also convicted for conspiring to kill Ranjit Singh, a Dera manager, in 2002. He was also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago.
His YouTube channel, Saint MSG, released a music video titled ‘Sadi Nit Diwali’ on Diwali. The video features the self-styled godman in various poses and his old clips with his two mentors Shah Satnam and Shah Mastana. The song was composed, sung, and directed by Ram Rahim.
Ram Rahim was released on parole from Haryana’s Sunaria jail on October 14 and he has been delivering online discourses, or ‘satsangs’, every day since then. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Haryana unit has come under fire for attending an online ‘satsang’ organised by Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
According to reports, the event was attended by several BJP leaders, including Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta. The issue has gathered heat with the upcoming by-election and panchayat polls in Haryana.
